March was such an exciting ride with the release of 'Lost Souls,' but as the month winded down, I began to wonder - what's next?
After all the work of editing, proof reading, formatting etc. that went into my novelette, I wanted to take a break, before beginning the same process with my next pending novel. But a writer can't just be idle - can they? Recently, I was visiting my 92 year old grandmother, and was telling her about what inspired my latest story I had in development. A story I 'm very excited to be finally writing - set in my hometown! My new story, 'Tailor Made' is set in 1920s Perth, Western Australia. Think of it as the Australian version of Peaky Blinders. As some of you are aware, I find inspiration everywhere, from unanswered questions, history and even things around me. This time was no different. I got the chance to explore a heritage listed building in the heart of Perth. So enamored by the history that was still there. Questioning, what was the original purpose of this place? When was it built? I began to look around the neighborhood for any other buildings that were built in or around the same period, establishing the newest setting of my story. After researching all of this, I was excited to explore the fictional aspect. My main characters and the reason for them. What was their purpose? What was life like then? I began writing my new adventure and began to feel that fresh excitement, that feeling I get whenever I start a new project. But I can hear you say... why start a new story now, when I have another novel already there, just waiting for editing. Well, when an idea is fresh, I like to get down as much as I can, so I don't lose my ideas and train of thought. I can always come back to the story later to revise, adjust and finish. If I start putting sand in the pit, I will have enough when the time comes to build those sandcastles. So for the month of April, I'm getting excited and lost in a new story, before I tackle my next paperback novel due later this year - Waltzing Matilda. Love Aria x
