Back in 2020, (the same year searching for toilet paper was like looking for the holy grail) I participated in the 'Aim for August' challenge.
The aim was to write a 80k word novel in 30 days (the month of August has 31 days - yes I know, but I guess they weren't counting the first day they issued the challenge). The formula was: 16 words per minute = 1000 per hour = 2.6 hours per day = 80 hours per week = 80,000 words in a month. The only time I really was able to understand a mathematical equation with ease. So, the big question I bet you are all wondering - Did I accomplish it? The answer is yes. It became the first draft for my fantasy novel 'House of Queens', which was eventually renamed 'The Fragmented Crown.' Since then, I have redrafted and restructured the story, but having something in place to begin with helped give me a great starting point. We always fixate on perfection when it comes to writing but the main thing we have to remember is that we have to have something written first. So, who thinks that they are up for the 'Aim for August' challenge this year? I have been brewing some new ideas, I look forward to seeing if I can achieve the same results this year as I did in 2020. Good luck everyone and let the race begin. Love Aria x
